Physics

Physics is the study of matter, energy, and the interactions between them. It delves into the deepest secrets of the cosmos, unravels the mysteries of motion, and explores the building blocks of the universe. From the tiniest subatomic particles to the vastness of space, physics provides us with the tools to comprehend the remarkable intricacies of our reality.

At Leaving Cert, students are invited to explore a variety of topics including;, Mechanics and Motion, Nucleur Physics, Electromagnetism, Light and Waves, Sound, Particle Physics and many more. Students will study these using online simulations, class discussions and many, many experiments which are a key part of the Leaving Cert exam. Students will also study the real world applications of these theories, applying the critical thinking skills to answer questions like "How does a fridge work?", "Why do mirages happen?" and "How hard do I need to throw a tennis ball to launch it into outer space?"

Students explore these topics through a wide variety of experiments, from famous setups like Young Slits experiment and Bartons Pendulum, to more creative outlets like building a wave machine with kebab sticks and jelly babies.  All of this goes to show that physics is everywhere if you just care to look.

Physics also plays a vital role in addressing global challenges. It provides insights into sustainable energy solutions, environmental conservation, and technological advancements. By studying physics, you equip yourself with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle real-world issues and make a positive impact on society.

Beyond the classroom, physics opens doors to exciting career paths. Whether you aspire to be an astrophysicist uncovering the secrets of the cosmos, an engineer designing cutting-edge technologies, a medical physicist revolutionizing healthcare, or a science communicator inspiring the next generation, a background in physics provides a solid foundation for success in a wide range of professions, and Physics at Inver College will help you get there.
