Spanish

Junior Cycle Spanish is a 3-year course. The syllabus in Spanish is a communicative one organised around the needs, expectations and interests which pupils bring to the foreign language classroom. 

 

Strands of learning:

  • Communicative Competence: Developing skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Language Awareness: Understanding grammar, vocabulary, and language structures.

  • Socio-Cultural Knowledge and Intercultural Awareness: Exploring Spanish-speaking cultures and fostering intercultural understanding.

Assessment Components

  • Written Exam: Tests vocabulary, grammar, written, aural, and comprehension skills.

  • Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs):

    • Oral Communication: Demonstrating skills of oral production and interaction.

    • Student Language Portfolio: Developing a language portfolio with written texts, projects, learning logs, and reflections.

    • Assessment Task: Reflecting on the experience with the CBAs.
